Land & Forest Grant Funding & Management
Project Planning, Administration & Management

Forest & land management is about looking after our landscape. It's caring for forests & woodlands, working with them, not neglecting or abandoning them. Grant funding is provided to support land owners in this undertaking.
Like land & forest ownership, land & forest management is a substantial, long term commitment to a programme overseen & grant funded by guiding authorities.
The aim is to build a healthy, resilient, biodiverse natural environment that maximises amenity and grows the land as an asset in context of the wider landscape.
Our professional management planning service enables owners to realise their ambitions guided by our many years of experience. The planning process is based on a thorough woodland survey. This enables a twenty year vision to be formulated together with a five year operational programme. The length and depth of a management plan is dependent on the size and complexity of the wood.
The UK Woodland Assurance Scheme and established government forest policy forms the background to planning decision formulation. Indeed the prepared plan is submitted to the Forestry Commission (FC) for approval.
Once completed, the plan itself serves as a practical tool to schedule the work to achieve the management objectives. Detailed maps are prepared that form an easily understood visual template. This way it’s possible for the owner, or any funding organisation, to be able to monitor progress.
The most common route to woodland management planning is for an owner or land agent to instruct us to undertake a plan on their behalf. Prior to submission to the FC we normally welcome owner review of this draft plan. This is the beginning of a what we would hope to be a long, rewarding relationship between an owner, a woodland manager and the woodland.
The preparation of management plans is supported by the FC through the English Woodland Grant Scheme “Woodland Planning Grant”.
To find out how we can help you with your woodland management plans get in touch via our enquiry form and one of our forest managers will get right back to you.
Planning follows consulting and appraisal.
With all the relevant information a forest manager can map and determine a route to achieving grant funding for optimum management that combines your wishes as the owner with best silvicultural practice and the requirements of the governing body for funding.
Application For Funding
Much has changed in recent years regarding qualification and mechanisms for woodland grant funding.
Chartered foresters Nina Williams and Thomas Simmons have a thorough, working knowledge of cutting edge, responsible forestry practice and are renowned for their excellence in grant application submission.
Project Implementation & Management
Project management is the implementation of the management plan on behalf of an owner. This phase begins once the management plan and EWGS five year grant funding contract is approved.
The first step is the production and presentation of an operational budget to be approved by the owner. Once signed off this is our formal instruction to proceed.
We do not necessarily have to have prepared the management plan to provide these project management services.
The work is undertaken by our employed forest operations team together with specialist sub contractors, managed and overseen by the forest manager.
Work is programmed seasonally and our service includes liaison with authorities, managing the budget, ensuring Health & Safety, recording progress and communication with the owner or land agent.
The operational budget includes both the generation of income and the incurring of cost. Normally we claim grant on behalf of owners and credit immediately to their account. When signing the grant contract owners are given the opportunity to direct this payment as they wish. Likewise where income is generated from timber sale we provide transparent information and timely self billing invoicing as part of the service.
Administration, Representation & Liason
Part of what land & forest managers do is represent the interests of their clients in liason with partners, governing bodies, local authorities, contractors and members of the public.
This service is built into our management offering. We work with owners to meet their needs on a bespoke basis. We aim to be available as required, leaving our clients to be as hands on or hands off as they choose.
Documentation & Reporting
As professional foresters we believe in transparency and clarity of information enabling our clients to be fully informed at all stages of consulting and management.
Every step of our process is documented. We produce, store & make available reports, surveys, mapping, applications forms, licenses and contracts on paper and in digital format where possible.
We are moving closer to digitising our administration and aim to provide online client portals and project hubs for all correspondence, documentation and files in the future.
We believe clients should have full access to their files and our next stage of digital development should address this.
