Appraisal is about discovery, understanding your landscape & evaluating it's potential. Forest managers undertake detailed surveys & research to build up a thorough report that includes a valuation. The report is yours to review & use. If you wish to pursue grant funding for a management plan then the survey will aid in generating an appropriate long term plan.

Managing land is about making long term plans with aims and goals to be achieved.

A woodland or landscape appraisal is the foundation for a well considered management plan.

Read below about land and forest surveys, valuations and reporting. All essential for getting to know and understand your land better and to help if you’re contemplating management planning, woodland creation, conservation or other types of cultivation.

If you wish to pursue grant funding for a management plan then an appraisal is the starting point for generation of a high quality DEFRA funded grant application.

Survey
A survey helps you and your management team understand and map your forest, the soil, the watercourse, the climate, the trees, the plants & the wildlife that is already present.  With a survey you can know your forest or woodland.

With this knowledge you can establish a plan to build on what you have, to grow the resilience of your woodland, to enhance the species present and to respond to the site conditions with appropriate management choices.

If you wish to pursue grant funding to help with the costs of management into the future a woodland survey will help you undertake the application process -for more on Funding see Woodland Management and our blogposts on grant applications

Valuation
Valuations are required for a number of reasons; for insurance, potential purchase or probate purposes.

Within our normal geographical area we are able to provide this service. For land where we are retained as managers compartment valuations can be provided for fire or windblow insurance purposes.

To find out more about woodland valuations get in touch with our office via our contact page or contact a forester directly via their profile pages.

Report
Whilst you’re unsure of plans for your land and forest property a report containing a survey and valuation may be all you need.

Although, you ask us to produce a survey and valuation for you be assured that you are under no pressure to proceed with management plans.

We recognise that woodland management is a big commitment and it needs proper consideration. We’ll always be happy to go over your queries and help in any way we can.

If you’d like a report with a full appraisal get in touch with the forestry team here or visit our people page and feel free to get in touch with the forest managers directly.
